Silent Service

In creating Silent Service, I was drawn to the quiet strength of nurses during wartime—women who were present in the chaos, offering care in a place defined by destruction. We often picture war through the lens of battle, but I wanted to show a different kind of courage—the kind that doesn’t seek recognition. This painting reflects how we remember sacrifice, and whose stories get left out. The nurse in this piece represents the many women who served on the front lines, not with weapons, but with compassion. Their presence mattered—and still does.
